So I've always owned and raced Banshees. Last summer while building my Banshee motor I rode my wife's 2005 YFZ 450. I actually started really liking it and now I've decided to buy one for myself. So here's my question, which year should I buy? I know in 2006 they made a lot of improvements to the bike. So I've pretty much ruled out 2005 and older. BUT, I've read that the 2006 still had the oil issue. So should I look at 2007-2008? I like the 2009 and up, but these don't fit my budget right now. Other than the oil issue, was anything else upgraded in 2007? Would it be a bad idea if I found a 2006 at a great price and added the oil mod to it? I just need to be swayed in some sort of direction so I know what to look for. I've actually got my eye on a 2008 SE Orange/black that I really like!

im pretty sure that the 05 had a carb, and the new ones like 07 and up had fuel injection. I heard some items didnt fit cause of the fuel injection, like the oversized tank. Just a though

I believe fuel injection didn't come until 2010.

Correct. 2009 was the last year of the 39mm FCR on the YFZ

hey im no expert on these yfz's, i just said what i though it was to be. Dont blame me, my friends was 09 or something, and he claimed to have fuel injection, and he said he researched these bikes, proves me wrong

seems like there was a cam mod on the older yfz's too. not sure though.

you should ask dallas.. i think he knows his shit on the yfz stuff

there is a cam mod on those years. I googled it once and there was several in depth threads about it and how to.
